I am not Nicole Kidman's biggest fan. I would never see a movie because she's in it, in fact it's usually a reason not to watch a movie. Will Ferrell is mis-cast in his role as the Hollywood star, he's just to childishly innocent to play such a sleazy nobody. Michael Caine is totally wasted. The script is poor, barely raising a lauch throughout, and the direction is bland and un-imaginative. Overall I found Bewitched....endearing
I don't know why either, perhaps it was misfiring so much it just made me smile, and that smile remained plastered on my face for the entire movie. I could never recommend this film to anyone, because it's really not that good. It's just....nice. It's a nice film with a nice heart and, for all the mistakes, good chemistry between Kidman and Ferrell. There is no structure to the film, no meat on it's bones. I cannot explain why I liked it at all. I am completely lost. I thought it was crap yet liked it and the way it presented itself.
Following the story is fairly straight forward, in spite of the fact that there is no fleshing out of why Kidman left Witch World or why Ferrell's last film flopped. The lack of imagination and insight into the characters make for a potentially bland leading pair. Only the contrast between Kidman and Ferrell raise this above what it should be. In spite of being horribly mis-cast, Ferrell tries his hardest, but he is clearly to soft to play this annoying, and irritating little man. Well he's annoying and irritating to begin with, however as the film moves on he softens up to be our cuddly Ferrell bear. Bearing that in mind, why wasn't Rob Lowe playing Jack Wyatt, he woulda been perfect casting, you coulda believed his sleazy movie star act!!
As I said I cannot recommend this movie, but please watch it. Please tell me it's a nice film. I am feeling somewhat gay in my assessment and I need some back up. Everyone prove my hetrosexuality by agreeing, otherwise I will have to go and join K DOgg at the homo barbecue and listen to Gloria Gaynor. And I will survive.
