Club Dread is the latest movie from the comedy troupe Broken Lizard. After the pant wetting incident that occurred during their last movie, Super Troopers, I came prepared this time round with extra absorbent underwear. They weren't required this time. Although Club Dread is a very funny film, it lacks the downright brilliance of Super Troopers. Don't get me wrong though, Club Dread is more than worth 113 minutes of your life.

As a pastiche on the slasher genre, it could be argued that this film arrives 3 years late, and it's all been done already. You could argue that, but you'd be wrong. Although this film is about the comedy, the deaths are quite brutal, and quite fun. Unlike the absurdity of Scary Movie and Shriek If You Know What I did Last Friday The 13th, the humour is more character based than slapstick based. There are numerous stereotypes played to perfection here. The Rastafarian looking tennis coach, who is actually very posh and properly spoken with a somewhat English accent. There is the comedy fat man, here played as a bit of a lady-killer (not literally, that is not a spoiler) who's touch can make women orgasm (bit like myself wink wink. Who there said no!). We are also given plenty of red herrings for all characters, showing clear and concise motives for wanting to murder everyone else. It's a cleverly done tactic because you do change your opinion on who the killer is quite often.

So overall, we have a solid comedy that also manages to be a fairly solid slasher movie, and although it gets a bit ridiculous toward the end, it's so well done you just hold your belly and chuckle.
